Hippocampal region-specific endogenous neuroprotection as an approach in the search for new neuroprotective strategies in ischemic stroke. Fiction or fact?
2023, Neurochemistry InternationalCitation Excerpt :Most neurotrophic factors are among the neurotrophins ((brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor (NGF), neurotrophin 3, neurotrophin 4); the glial cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor family (GDNF), and neurotrophic cytokines. From among these, it was the mRNA expression of BDNF, NGF, neutrophin 3 and GDNF that was shown to predominate in CA3 as compared with CA1 (Ernfors et al., 1990; Greene et al., 2009; Kokaia et al., 1999; Lindvall et al., 1992; Machado et al., 2022; Tsukahara et al., 1998). BDNF is the most abundant neurotrophin in the central nervous system and is mainly synthesized by neurons.
