Hypertonic saline exposure significantly increases Fos expression in the MnPO, not only in CaMKIIa-positive neurons, but also other neuronal phenotypes. CNO-mediated inhibition did not significantly attenuate total hypertonic saline-induced Fos expression in the MnPO in Gi DREADD-injected rats; Bold text and *p < 0.050 compared to vehicle controls; Bold text and **p < 0.001 compared to all groups.
