The profile of mood states (POMS) is a 65-item inventory of self-reported mood states that is sensitive to a wide variety of nutritional manipulations, including undernutrition and environmental factors (e.g., sleep loss and subclinical doses of various drugs) [22–25]. It was a precursor of neurotransmitters and hormones, which has been found in foods such as fish, soy, eggs, milk, and bananas (Banderet and Lieberman, 1989; Colzato et al., 2014, 2016). However, high levels of L-Tyr have been related to tyrosinemia disease, which was a rare autosomal recessive disorder of L-Tyr metabolism.
