2013, Acta HistochemicaCitation Excerpt :Galanin has been located in the central nervous system and gut, and participates in modulation of a variety of physiological processes including memory, pain, food intake, nociception, and hormone secretion (Lang et al., 2007). With regard to the distribution of galanin-immunoreactive cells within the GN, the presence of the peptide was confirmed in the pig, rat, mouse and human ganglion (Philippe et al., 1990; Calingason and Ritter, 1992; Finley et al., 1995). Nitric oxide (NO) is one of gaseous messenger molecules with multiple biological functions.
