Reduced direction discrimination sensitivity in visual motion adaptation, and the role of perceptual learning
2021, Vision ResearchCitation Excerpt :The dot coherence of the test stimulus was the independent variable for the psychometric function. Blake and Hiris (1993) found that this psychometric function shifted horizontally, with the amount of the shift indicating the strength of MAE. The slope of this function, measured from two participants, did not change.

2019, Neuroscience and Biobehavioral ReviewsCitation Excerpt :2AFC designs have also been implemented, in which participants select one of two response options, such as the test stimulus’ motion direction (e.g. Kaunitz et al., 2011; Taya et al., 2009) or which of two test stimuli was moving faster (Morgan, 2013). Some 2AFC paradigms use nulling techniques in which the percentage of test stimulus dots moving oppositely to the aftereffect (Blake and Hiris, 1993; Mukai and Watanabe, 2001) or the phase shift of the test (e.g. Culham et al., 2000) is adjusted to counteract the aftereffect. 2AFC / two interval forced choice (2IFC) designs have been considered preferable to duration or matching tasks in terms of minimising response bias (Morgan, 2013).
A motion aftereffect from visual imagery of motion

2009, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Then, at the beginning of each trial, the adapting stimulus was presented for an additional 4 s (top-up adaptation). Following a 50 ms interstimulus interval, a test stimulus was presented for 500 ms. Subjects were required to indicate whether the stimulus was moving in the same direction as the adapting stimulus or in the opposite direction (Blake and Hiris, 1993). Responses were collected during a 625 ms response interval.
