2015, Journal of EthnopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :AMPH results in increased locomotion, decreased food consumption, and a negative energy balance (Walters et al., 2012) which has been linked to the lateral hypothalamus (LH) (Carlisle, 1964; Russek et al., 1973). Animal studies support the notion that LH-innervating NE and DA fiber systems but not SE fibers are involved in the anorectic effect of AMPH (Carlisle and Reynolds, 1961; Ahlskog, 1974; Carey and Goodall, 1975; Samanin et al., 1975; Carey, 1976). Pharmacological studies using NE and DA synthesis inhibitors (Leibowitz, 1975), NE receptor antagonists (Leibowitz, 1975; Sanghvi et al., 1975; Leibowitz and Rossakis, 1978), and DA receptor antagonists (Leibowitz, 1975; Chen et al., 2001) all showed attenuation or complete blockage of AMPH׳s anorexic effects.
